About

Jessy Van Durme is a Belgian multidisciplinary designer. Her sensitive approach combines heritage, ethics, and future aspirations, resulting in timeless, authentic objects. She has designed furniture and lighting for international design brands, and works across the whole spectrum of design, from rugs to ceramics and upholstery.

Driven by understanding the relationship between function and materials, Jessy finds inspiration at the ateliers of the craftspeople she collaborates with, taking time to discover their processes. On the drawing board, observations are distilled into enduringly poetic forms that are honest in texture and finish, while economic in form, rooted in empathy with the resources of the environment, the labour of craft, and the power of nature.

Van Durme studied interior design at the Royal Academy of Arts Antwerp, and has experience in graphic design, art direction, production, video direction, branding and communication. With her partner, photographer Piet Albert Goethals, she founded L’Officine, an aesthetic retreat and studio space near Brussels ideal for collaborations, and Akt, a magazine envisioned as a tribute to fellow creatives and a meaningful reflection on the art of design and life.
